READY TO volunteer?
Our program is in high demand, and we’d love to have you on the IAGA team as we take on more partners and students!
Volunteer opportunities are all virtual. No previous experience is needed, and you will be trained and equipped by our experienced team members.
Fill out the form below to connect with us to learn more about specific volunteer opportunities.
-
All volunteer opportunities are online/virtual.
HOWEVER! We are big on community and have an in person jubilation during the summer as well as in person volunteer appreciation/hang out events throughout the year. -
Tutoring: Meet with students 1:1 via Zoom once a week
Ops/Tech: Point of contact for tutors and learning partners overseas, troubleshoot and problem solve any tech issues during lessons
Curriculum/Creator: Develop content, script lesson plans based on curriculum resources, design and build online courses in the Canvas learning management system
-
Ops/tech and tutor volunteers give 1-2 hours a week for each 8-10 week session.
Curriculum/creator volunteer opportunities vary and are project-based depending on volunteer availability. -
A session is an 8-10 week period where a student and tutor typically go through one full English course level.
-
Sessions typically run during the following months
Winter: January to March
Spring: April to June
Fall: September to December
We always break for the summer and holidays. -
Especially for those tutoring, the goal is to build healthy relationships with our students, and that is primarily achieved through consistently showing up.
If you’re unable to make an ongoing long-term commitment to tutoring, we have other non-student facing volunteer opportunities.
-
We have substitutes that can fill in when you are unavailable.
-
Prior tutoring or ESL teaching experience are not required. Lesson plans, curriculum, and training are provided! In addition, you’ll shadow an experienced tutor prior to tutoring by yourself.
-
You’ll shadow an experienced tutor until you are comfortable tutoring by yourself. We also provide detailed lesson plans with word-for-word scripts that you can use. Click this link for an example lesson plan.
-
You’ll receive an email with more details to get started with IAGA including an application link to consent to a background check. If you do not see a message from us within 72 hours, please check your spam/junk folder and reach out again.
We use Checkr to complete background checks. Upon the passing of your background check and being welcomed to the team, you’ll have a couple required trainings: online Trauma-Free World training and volunteer role based training.
If you are tutoring, we’ll work with you to schedule times to shadow a tutor volunteer.
-
We are committed to the safety of our students and the rest of our community. Utilizing personal references, background checks, and training such as the Trauma Free World course helps us meet and maintain our security requirements.

“I enjoy tutoring my student as she is an extraordinary, strong, thoughtful, gracious, kind person. I have been tutoring her for over two years. She plans to write her 12th grade exam next year and wants to major in theology after that. May God bless my darling student.”
